LG Esteem Review

[adsense]MetroPCS offered the LG Esteem late in 2011 on their 4G LTE network to take over as the most powerful no contract smartphone in their arsenal. The LG Esteem comes in with powerful specs and more features than what a phone geek can enjoy. But does it compete with its advertised competitors which require a contract? LG Esteem reviews are mixed because of some key points.

LG Esteem Specs

The LG Esteem comes in with a powerful 1 GHz processor using the Gingerbread Android Operating System (Android 2.3). The Esteem also features a 4.3 inch touchscreen with all the handy standard features of this class such as Bluetooth access, Wi-Fi accessibility, Micro-HDMI, Micro-USB slots for expansion as well as the standard microSD card slot. It also contains a 1.3 megapixal lens front camera in addition to the very impressive 5 megapixal real camera with a flash that also does 720p HD video capture.

The LG Esteem has access to all the great Android apps as well as the standard MetroPCS apps which are preinstalled. The interface is simple and easy to use with sub menus and useful shortcuts to make accessibility a snap. If you like your smartphones large, the LG Esteem may be just for you. The 4.3 inch touchscreen with Gorilla Glass topper is .5 inch thick, and comes in as 5 inches tall and 2.6 inches wide. This is a significant entry into the no contract smartphone class but with a key stat. The LG Esteem with the included battery only is rated to have 3 hours of talk time and about 8 days of standby time. With so many great features and toys to play with, it may be disappointing to only have so little time before requiring a recharge.

LG Esteem Cost

MetroPCS offers 3 different plans in which the LG Esteem can be used. They come in between $40 and $70 depending on how much 4G LTE use you prefer per month as well as any other additional MetroPCS features you wish to have. MetroPCS has 4G LTE availability in many major cities and uses a CDMA 3G network as a fall back in other areas. No LG Esteem review can be complete without a mention that this is a no contract smartphone. Meaning, no contracts, credit checks or cancellation fees when used with MetroPCS. A great cost saving value and feature.

Conclusions

The LG Esteem is a powerful addition to the no contract smartphone family with features and specs better than many smartphones that require a contract. Being able to use this phone freely on a 4G LTE network just adds to the allure of having this type of smartphone so inexpensively. The major drawback is the 3 hour talk time use achieved with the included battery. Some have reported having success with installing battery saver apps to trim or eliminate the battery drain when not in use, but having to constantly charge after a short time of use on this type of phone is a negative many cannot overcome.
